New Music: Soft Crest – Young Blood

How about a bit of lo-fi shoegaze? Yes I know, that is exactly what you were looking for. It has most certainly been awhile since that specific genre of music has appeared on this blog… that length of time being never, in fact… but after this gem of a tune landed in my inbox I felt compelled to spread the word.

“Young Blood” by the Californian four piece band Soft Crest is exactly what I needed to hear on a Monday evening at the start of Summer. It says a lot that I was already hitting the buy button and handing a dollar over before the song had even finished, it was worth paying for even moreso since there was the possibility of getting it free… was just exactly what I wanted to hear at that moment.

The genre is fairly self explanatory, they have got lo-fi shoegaze right down to a T. I can blog about blues and heavy beats all day long but sometimes the brain needs to hear something new, get new ideas flowing and make everything come across just that little bit differently.

“Young Blood” is a free download that pre-empts the release of their debut album coming up this Summer entitled “Pacific Electric” – should be a good one.

Young Blood is the new single from Northern California quartet Soft Crest, featuring ex members of History Invades & Drew Danburry. Following the 2010 releases of songs Perfect Sound and Baltic Girls, YB shows their experimentation with more traditional instruments, while still tying it together with the spacious sounds of previous songs. Their debut album Pacific Electric is finished with a release date that’s yet to be determined. In the meantime, they have chosen this single to give out for free to anyone who wants to hear it, and we fully appreciate you taking the time to give it a listen.

Listen to “Young Blood” and download it if you like what you hear!

You can also follow them on facebook.
